My All Time Favorite TED Talk
Susan Cain's TED Talk on introverts absolutely changed my life. When I listened to it I instantly felt this deep seeded sense of validation. Her ability to articulate the unique strengths and contributions of introverts completely changed the view I had of myself. She converted my awkward tendencies to superpowers.
My intention in sharing this with you is twofold… First, if you’re an introvert you too will find the validation I found. Secondly, if you aren’t an introvert odds are you have one in your life. When you as an extrovert understand introverts your understanding of those people will rise, causing your relationship to strengthen.
Her talk led me to also read her book Quiet which furthered my understanding and is a book I constantly recommend inside my coaching practice.
Below are my top takeaways from her TED Talk. I hope Susan’s work has the same profound impact on you as it does me..
- When it comes to creativity and to leadership, we need introverts doing what they do best.
- Introverts feel at their most alive and their most switched-on and their most capable when they're in quieter, more low-key environments.
- The key then to maximizing our talents is for us all to put ourselves in the zone of stimulation that is right for us.
